ZL1STE

Back on amateur radio after a twenty-year detour.

I started around CB and 11m SSB in the UK in the 1990s, passed the City & Guilds Radio Amateurs Examination in 1999, then moved to New Zealand and left radio on the back burner for far too long.

In 2023 I sat the New Zealand exam and became ZL1STE. The station includes a late-1980s Yaesu FT-747GX and a basic low inverted-V fan dipole. The manual mentions CAT control with an Apple ][, yet it still talks happily to modern FT8 software.
